Take the Guesswork out of Choosing Paint

Painting can be one of the fastest and easiest ways to make an impact on your home, but choosing paint colors can sometimes be intimidating. Matching colors is especially important with open floor plans, which is a big trend in homes. You want to use different colors to create visual separation of space(s) but still need them to complement each other.

I recently met with Regal Paint Centers Owner Steve Rasmussen who talked to me about Benjamin Moore’s Affinity Color Collection. The colors of the Affinity Collection are harmonious which means they all work well together. Benjamin Moore created this collection by having experts compile colors that share one or more key color traits—hue, chroma or value. Hue is the basic color family, while Value describes how light or dark a color is and Chroma or saturation is the intensity of color. Colors in the same hue that vary in value will always work harmoniously. This is the same for colors with similar chroma, even if they are different in hue.

The Affinity Collection narrows down the color selection process to 144 colors, making it manageable for people to choose color combinations. So, the good news is that if you stay within the collection, you really can’t make a mistake!
