Laundry Room Makeover!

BY MARTIN AMADO ON JUNE 13TH, 2017

Laundry rooms can be as stylish as the rest of your home’s decor. The key is to add the right cabinetry and accessories that are functional and give you lots of storage to hide any clutter.

Begin with a fresh coat of paint to brighten up the room. Just because a laundry room is hidden from the rest of the home, it doesn’t mean you have to leave it a sterile white. Think of cheerful yellows, peaceful blues and nature-inspired greens that remind you of being outdoors. No matter the size of the room, color can make a big difference.

Flooring is also important to add style in the space. Lifeproof vinyl plank flooring from Home Depot is a great option because it’s lightweight and easy to install right over your existing floor. No need to go through the extra expense and mess of removing existing tiles. Best of all, its 100% waterproof, which is perfect for a laundry room. Once installed, you get a truly custom, authentic wood look floor.

For optimum storage, replace wire shelves with cabinets for a clean look that makes good use of vertical space. You can buy cabinetry online in many sizes to create your own custom layout that best suits your needs. For example, I recommend using a combination of upper cabinets for laundry/cleaning supplies and base cabinets, which are great as a surface for folding clothes or ironing. Tall towers offer great storage solutions for brooms, vacuums and mops. Organize the inside of the cabinets with baskets and caddies to keep all your supplies handy and portable at all times.

Don't forget the decorative details to finish off the room. You can add a personal touch with whimsical artwork, which makes doing the laundry fun every time you walk into the room. And there you have it … a complete laundry room makeover that is very DIY friendly. You might feel inspired to spend more time doing laundry now.
