Fall Curb Appeal

fall-curb-appealFall is a special time of the year when the leaves begin to change colors and the weather is cool and crisp. This season creates a beautiful color palette that you can use as inspiration not only to decorate the inside of your home, but also the outside!

Let the warm and rustic colors be your guide as you make simple changes to your home’s curb appeal to make it more inviting for fall. Every year I visit a feed store and purchase bales of hay for around $10 each. They give you a lot of bang for your buck – when compared to the small decorative versions you find at craft stores – and I place them around the front porch with fall décor on top and around it like scarecrows and gourds. Add outdoor throw pillows on a wood bench; place potted mums that are late-season bloomers on either side of your door to frame the entryway; and finish creating the fall scene with pumpkins.

can also make your own pumpkin topiary with minimal materials. All you need are craft pumpkins in three different sizes and a wood dowel that is as tall as the topiary itself. Begin with the largest pumpkin as the base and drill a hole on top to insert the wood dowel. For the medium pumpkin, drill a hole on the top and bottom and slide onto the dowel, and finally, drill a hole on the bottom of the smallest pumpkin and place onto dowel as a finial. If you find the dowel is too long, simply trim it with pruning shears.

Fall marks the beginning of the holiday season and these are touches that will help get your home ready as you welcome family and friends.
