Custom Ornaments

Custom ornament on tree

Ornaments have special meaning during the holidays.  They are used to decorate the tree and different areas of the home, but they are also mini “time capsules” of sorts that hold many memories – whether it is a piece that has been handed down generation-to-generation or a collection that you add to every year.

I still have vivid memories of decorating the tree with my parents and placing the same ornaments, nativity scene, and tree topper as a yearly tradition.  Every ornament you unwrap brings back a moment in time as you carefully place it on the tree to display during the holiday season.

Here’s a fun DIY project that the entire family can do together by personalizing your holiday tree this year with custom photo frame ornaments!  The materials are minimal and the look is priceless.  You can purchase unfinished wood frames at any craft store for around $1 each. I like mixing different shapes and sizes to give the tree more visual interest.

Paint the frames in colors that coordinate with your décor scheme. Once the paint is dry, you can embellish the front with seasonal crafting tapes, ribbons, rhinestones, foam stickers – or anything your heart desires. Use your imagination and be as creative as you want to be.  You can also use alphabet and/or number stickers to spell out a name or add the year to commemorate when the ornament was created.

To hang, simply drill a hole on the top center and loop a decorative cord or ribbon to display your favorite photo.  This is a great project for kids, and the kid in all of us!  The frames can also be used as place card holders or party favors for guests to take home a custom gift this holiday season.
