MARTIN's WORKSHOP

BEFORE & AFTER

BEFORE & AFTER

BY MARTIN AMADO ON JUNE 4TH, 2019

After 16 years of having the same bedroom décor, the homeowners’ style had changed and they wanted their bedroom to look and feel more like a retreat than stepping back into a time warp.

The goal was to go from dated traditional to modern coastal, so the room makeover process began with a soft blue paint color on the walls that reminded you of the beach.  A new upholstered headboard with a simple wood frame replaced the dark and heavy furniture.  The bed was flanked on either side with hanging pendant lights from the ceiling over the nightstand, which gave the bedroom a boutique hotel look. Love.

By far, the biggest change was in how the room was used. Where the seating area would normally go in a master suite, the homeowners had a home office. I’m not a fan of this because work and sleep should never be mixed in a master bedroom if you can avoid it. Instead, the addition of two accent chairs created a cozy space for relaxing and reading by the couple.

Now, if only we can figure out a way to get pampered and get room service in our homes? Hopefully this Mother’s Day month, the family will make mom feel extra special in her new stylish suite by bringing breakfast in bed.
