4 Must-Have Home Design Trends for 2016

Is your home still stuck in 2015? Bring your home design into the new year with the biggest home trends for 2016 according to the latest Zillow Digs Home Trend Forecast.

The one-of-a-kind report was created using both data from a survey of interior design experts and an analysis of popular photos on Zillow Digs, an online hub for home improvement and design inspiration.

According to the report, sleek statement pieces are the best way to upgrade your home design game.

“Say goodbye to mason jars and chalkboard paint, as the overdone 'farmhouse chic' is finally headed out of style,” said Kerrie Kelly, Zillow Digs home design expert, in a statement. “2016 will bring a fresh modern vibe that beautifully mixes simplicity with bold accents reminiscent of the roaring 20s. Watch for an increase in natural colors and textures contrasted by retro art deco statement pieces.”

Here are the top four must-have home design trends for 2016:

1. Art Deco-Inspired Patterns and Shapes

The 1920s are back, but with a modern twist. You can get the look by working bold geometric patterns or honeycomb shapes into everything from rugs to wallpaper. Gold statement lighting fixtures are also on the rise.

2. Nubby Wool Rugs

Natural fibers like nubby wool are the “it” texture for 2016. The neutral hue is the perfect balance for increasingly popular bright colors and patterns.

3. Encaustic Tiles

Different types of clay rather than glaze create the complex and sophisticated pattern of these tiles. Use them in kitchen backsplashes, shower tiles, accent walls or even fireplace mantels to give your home a fresh facelift.

4. Artisan Accent Pieces

Minimalism is another a big trend for 2016. Check out local flea markets and other vintage shops for unique artisan pieces to display prominently throughout your home.
